Our story

The story begins in 1986, in Belize, when Coral Cay Conservation was born from a need to take action and conserve coral reefs that were showing signs of degradation. Over the next three decades the use of citizen scientists proved to be an extremely effective tool, allowing us to collect high-quality data which could be used towards the establishment of sustainable marine and terrestrial management protocols.

Over the years our reputation grew, which led to invitations to work within local communities all over the world. Helping in Tobago, Honduras, Indonesia, Malaysia, Fiji and more, by offering our expertise at no cost to our host countries we were able to assist multiple villages, partnering our knowledge and expertise with their hopes and wishes for a more sustainable way of life.

In addition to helping local communities establish multiple Marine Protected Areas we, with the vital help of our citizen science teams, were instrumental in the creation of a number of ground-breaking conservation achievements, including the facilitation of the Belize UNESCO World Heritage site and recently, Cambodia's first large scale marine reserve.

Our teams' dedication and hard work has been officially recognised with numerous sustainability, conservation and responsible tourism awards.
