Field Base Manager

The FBM will be responsible for overseeing the smooth running of the Southern Leyte Coral Reef Conservation project and ensuring that all aspects of the project are being conducted safely and within CCC standards. They will be responsible for the health and safety of all CCC personnel, including international and local staff, volunteers and Filipino scholars. This is a unique role, offering the right candidate the opportunity to build on their practical expedition management experience with an award-winning NGO.

  • Practical management and leadership experience

  • Off-Site safety management experience

Duties & Responsibilities


This is a freelance position. The FBM will be responsible for fulfilling the project brief, this will involve overseeing the daily operations of the project site, helping to drive forward the project's aims, and managing all CCC personnel, whilst ensuring that all CCC protocols and guidelines are adhered to. The FBM has responsibility for managing the project budget and is expected to practise economy at all times. 

The CCC Philippines site is subject to a 4 week repeat cycle:
Week one - Dive training up to PADI Advanced Open Water
Week two and three - Skills Development Programme (training in species ID and survey protocol)
Week four - Marine surveys and community outreach

The data collected by CCC survey teams are utilised to develop conservation-driven directives in partnership with municipal and local government units for the prosperity of the Philippines’ natural resources. Some of these include but are not limited to: the establishment of Marine Protected Areas (MPA) and their respective ordinance; scalable and replicable novel marine survey techniques; and capacity building and educational workshops.
The FBM is appointed for a period of one year to one project site, they will be responsible for managing and providing required training to an international staff team consisting of a Project Scientist, Science Officer, Scuba Instructor and local staff. The FBM will receive a handover document written by the prior FBM before arrival to help with acclimatisation and will undergo a 4-week physical handover on site. Preparatory training and certification will be provided to the successful candidate where deemed necessary, prior to deployment.

The successful candidate will receive the training outlined below (dependant on certifications already held and previous travel experience).

Scuba Pro Level One Technician Training
First aid training
Expedition Care Programme Instructor sign off
Food hygiene online course
Off Site Safety Management course
Travel Safety course
Training to PADI Dive Master if needed (on project site, does not including manuals and PICs)

The preparatory training will take place at the CCC Head office in Surrey before departure. During this time the candidate will need to cover their own lodging and board but will receive a £40 contribution towards their expenses, per full day's training.

We welcome applications from international candidates however, please note that it is unfortunately not possible for candidates to undertake the abovementioned preparatory training remotely, and we are unaware of the costs of securing Professional Liability Insurance as a non-UK freelancer.
